When asked to describe ourselves, we usually say something along the lines of “a couple of city-slickers who love to adventure.” With that description comes a very specific lifestyle - and we often characterize our look as outdoorsy meets athleisure, a style that fits in all too well with the Vancouver way of life. With our busy days comes a need for practicality, and we wear things that can easily translate from city wear to the outdoors, without having to change. We’re constantly on the hunt for comfortable options, (without compromising fashion, of course!) as proper footwear with appropriate support is so important when you’re tripping over roots in the forest, or jumping on logs and rocks on the beach. We were so excited when our friends at Ecco gave us some shoes from their newest summer line to try - and even more excited when we learned of their focus on the athleisure movement!
One of our favourite local places to camp when summer hits is Chilliwack Lake, a mere 2 hours from Vancouver by car. Chilliwack Lake Provincial Park is situated in the upper Chilliwack River Valley, and is known for its pristine waters and stunning views of the North Cascade mountains. The park has easy lake access for canoeing or swimming, and beautiful trails through old growth forests that will take you through the trees to foot bridges and lookouts. Our favourite campsites are nestled in the trees, and a quick jaunt down the hill will take you right to the lake, and a multitude of pathways. We’ve stayed at the same campsite five times now, and it has begun to feel like ours.
On our most recent camping trip to Chilliwake Lake, we arrived in the late afternoon when the golden sunshine was still filtering through the trees. We decided to take our Ecco shoes for a test drive, so before setting up camp, we hit the trails - Brie in the Women’s Kinhin Low, and Reuben in the Men’s Intrinsic TR MID. After a busy week in the city, there’s nothing like breathing in that mountain air and taking in the quiet. We spent the next couple of hours wandering the forests, skipping rocks and balancing on logs. We watched owls swoop through the trees and fish jump in the emerald green waters - a good reminder of how incredible nature can be at such a short distance from Vancouver. We were so impressed at how comfortable our Ecco kicks were, and they’ll for sure be included in our outdoor footwear rotation!
