When Reuben and I first met, one of the first things we bonded over was our sensitive stomachs and digestive issues. How romantic, right?! So naturally when Ollie came along, maintaining a healthy diet became even more of a priority. Part of what I eat goes to Ollie through my milk, and neither Reuben or I can afford to be brought down by stomach bugs or a drop in energy. A significant portion of our immune system resides in our digestive tract, so if we get sick, we need to bounce back ASAP. Parenting requires us to be at 100% as much as possible!
When we’re home, it’s so easy for us to be mindful of what we’re eating and to prepare foods that we know will be easy on our digestive systems. I can be sure to provide Ollie with the benefits of my nutrition in every meal, as digestive health affects our overall health. But when we’re travelling or on the go, there’s so much that’s out of our control. We still prepare a lot on our own, but it’s usually down to quick and convenient foods, and we end up eating out a lot. Since both Reuben and I take Jamieson probiotics as a natural solution to maintain the good bacteria in our digestive systems, it felt only natural for us to also give them to Ollie to help him keep a healthy gut too. Luckily, Jamieson, being a brand we already trust, has formulated a line of probiotic products to help through all stages of life, even drops for babies! It gives us peace of mind knowing that his tummy is taken care of. It can be so stressful dealing with a fussy baby, and not knowing what’s wrong or what’s hurting him is heartbreaking. Early on, we dealt with multiple blow outs a day (SO fun, especially when you’re in the middle of downtown Lisbon, or on a plane!) and a gassy tummy, (we’ll spare you the details), and switching to Jamieson Canada’s baby probiotic drops made ALL the difference. Less fussiness = less stressful travelling!
on the go
Now, we don’t hit the road without our family probiotics. We recently decided to take a mini road trip up the Sea to Sky past Squamish to take advantage of some beautiful weather, and it was so fun to show Ollie some spots in the lower mainland that he’s never seen. We set off in a camper van (how lucky are we, it’s the ultimate way to travel in comfort with a babe!) and stopped at Galileo Coffee Company, one of our fav spots for a caffeine fix and to pick up some beans. We drove on to hit up the town of Squamish, where we usually make it a habit to eat at Zephyr Cafe. We always opt for their yummy rice bowl with sesame “Zephyr” dressing, and a peanut butter oatmeal chocolate cookie for some extra fuel. Squamish is such a beautiful little mountain town, and it’s a great place to slow down and wander through the local shops and cafes.
We brought Ollie for a walk through Shannon Falls Provincial Park, and took him off-roading past beautiful creeks and jagged peaks, and everything was drenched in sunshine. We’re always so, so happy being on the road, and we hope Ollie grows up loving it too.
